Religion education as mean of education penalty as correction ideology has been widely used as the most effective means in the correction for criminals. In korea, in the end of the Joseon Dynasty, Christianity religious correction for criminals by Rhee Syng-Man was the beginning of religious correction. After that, through the imperial religious education penalty under Japanese colonial rule and the political religious education penalty under authoritarian regimes, today-political character of religious correction for criminals- but conservative and bureaucratic religious education penalty ideology dominates soft and define prison inmates.First of all, after describing the historical changes in the religious structure percent of the prison inmates and the historical changes in the religious member of the board of correction, I asserted the phenomenon of decreasing the proportion of religious education in religious correction for prison inmates, such as teaching guidance and increasing charitable activities. so far, religious correction has made a great contribution to the correction for them. christianity, in particular, has contributed on religious correction for them the most with its immense capital power and strong religious passion. But, in terms of ideology, subject, activity, administration, korean religious correction for them has shown diverse issues such as politicization, merchandising, powering, undemocraticity, hierarchial selectivity, similar bureaucratism, conservatism which focus more on “nationalization” of inmates than “civilization” of them, paternalism, closeness and so on. Therefore, I asserted the improvement plans of religious correction for them in micro and macro terms such as the basic institutional reform with the interdisciplinary approach unlike existing studies with a single-track approach.
